Gay Rights

Yanked from the journal of elemirion:

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

EDIT: I removed the "chain letter" part of this "meme"... the quote's the important part anyway.
:)

So you allow for no choices but "I am willing to post this exact text in this exact way" and "I do not believe in gay rights"....? ;)

Exactly. Today I am feeling decidedly choice-free. ;)

This is exactly how we lose people to the gay rights movement. :p

That, and a gym membership, I guess. ;)

There's kind of a built-in false dichotomy that implies if I don't post the little chain-letter thingy in my journal I must not really believe in gay rights. So I would like to just point out that I'm not posting it in my journal because I hate chain-letters and email forwards and I pretty much never repost or forward them, and I would like you not to make assumptions about me on that basis. :)

I'm the same. Chain letters are non-consensual magic in my book.
But then, I'm queer that way.

Oh, I totally agree with you. I just posted it because I thought it would get people talking, not because I expected anyone to feel obligated to re-post it.

Well, the original quote is right on. It's part of a whole set of messed up priorities. Why are people more at ease with viewing murder on TV than the sight of a woman's breast? Why are people more concerned about the effect of gay parents on children than alcoholic parents, or abusive parents? For every gay couple who want to be married and raise a kid, how many crack whore moms are there? How many fathers who ditched their children completely? How many child-rapist stepfathers?
