Vote NO on Prop 8!
Marriage equality in California is now losing by 5 points, according to the latest poll numbers, and I'm barely even back from my honeymoon. I just made a donation to fight the bigotry and lies that the right-wing anti-LGBT groups have been spreading. Even if you are not in California, please join me in standing up for equal rights by donating to the Human Rights Campaign California Marriage PAC. If you donate TODAY then your gift will be DOUBLED. Just click the link below:

Here's some other (free!) ways that Californians can help:
Download and print a No on 8 bumpersticker!
Download and print a No on 8 Window Sign.
Not registered to vote? It's not too late! You still have a few days left! (Deadline: October 20, 2008) Click HERE to get a form to mail in. (At this point you will likely want to print out the form yourself so that you will have time to mail it in by the deadline.)
And probably the most important step that each of us can take is to simply speak out. Be visibly progressive. Don't accept intolerance as being inevitable. It is up to each of us to make a stand and embody those values that we hold dear. Because if we don't... who will?

DAMN I wish I were a registered California voter so I could vote the HELL NO out of this bitch!!!! I will send a donation, though. Thanks for posting this!
Why won't LJ let me use my real blog address?
I don't live in CA but I'm offended and frightened by Prop 8.
Though, it seems that I have a totally different take than everyone else on this issue.
I just sent my vote in. I've been thinking about this and it seems like even if 8 passes it will be struck down in court. It creates a legal inconsistency because it isn't retroactive and doesn't have language to deal with the status of marriages performed while it was legal since the CA supreme court ruling this summer.
Not suggesting that people shouldn't be worried or be doing everything they can to beat it. Just saying.
How about seperate for everybody?!
I know that as Americans we don't like to do what Europe does...but IMO there should be a separation between marriage and the state's legal status given to couples. EVERYBODY should be allowed to have a civil ceremony that the state (meaning the entire USA) recognizes as being a "marriage" for all legal purposes (like taxes, inheritance, care decisions, ect.) but the ceremonial/church aspect which everybody gets into a twist about should be a separate thing that is called marriage. We all go down to City Hall get civilly joined and those who so wish to have their legal union blessed in some sort of house of worship can do so (if the house of worship in question recognizes the aforementioned civil union as an acceptable "marriage" in their particular faith.) There is is all solved...marriage is still a religious term and everybody gets to be as happy or miserable as they perceive they should be. This also helps with the whole separation of church and state thing.
